AMERICAN DINNER is America's Project. Its possibilities are what you and I and everyone who particpates on these pages bring to it. It's a place for all of us, young and old, of all beliefs and political affiliations to join across our dinner tables and proudly share what makes us each uniquely American, while we showcase our favorite foods.

Is it fun, edgy, educational, simple and sometimes controversial? You bet. That's democracy-- join in for the flavor..

Help Make "American Dinner " a Thanksgiving '08 Television Special

AMERICAN DINNER
A TV show? A National Cookbook? A gathering place for your family to share your kind of America with others. A place to make a difference in the national conversation. FOOD, FAMILY and FRIENDS-- What better way to understand each other than the joy of breaking bread together?
_____________________________________________________________
We Americans ARE the melting pot. The very first Thanksgiving -- a sharing between two very different cultures-- set the table for the cornucopia of democracy that we are today. Flawed? yes? Engaging? yes. Like every recipe, America itself, depends upon constant seasoning and stirring and letting it all settle from time-to-time before new ingredients are added.

Taste the flavors of our vast people. Add your special ingredients.
What are your hopes, your concerns for America today? What Are Your Recipes for Democracy and what's being talked about across your dinner table?
What about your politics? Are all vegetarians for Obama? If you're a republican who frequently dines at Burger King were you able to stomach Huckabee's diet routine? (http://weight.uams.edu/)

Raw Food is our first video. Join the Louks family in their celebration of family and tradition and why their choice and beliefs focus on eating food raw. Controversial? Tell us what you think. Meat and potato more your style? Or maybe ethnic or regional is your way?

Coffee and Cabbage Soup

As I updated this site, this morning, I realize ironically that I'm not much of a "foodie" and yet I am. Born of culturally German parents, I gravitate toward simple peasant food. Garlic, vinegar and hot peppers are Pavlovian to my appetite. But no fear, I can gobble up a bag of Doriitos in one sitting or a chocolate fudge 1/2 gallon of ice cream in 2 days like the best of you.
